18th c. Storage Box
An 18th c. oversized storage box with a sliding lid in original paint and surface.
Constructed from pine wood in thick stock, the body is formed in rudimentary fashion with irregular joints. A series of large hand forged nails join the corners.
The lid is robust. Formed from an equally thick stock piece of pine wood with an overwized thumb grab and deeply chamfered sides. Wide plane marks remain visible and somewhat pronounced.
Simple in concept, formed out of basic necessity, thus producing a charming appreciation for its simplistic concept. Retains an incredible surface history to its entirety with original paint applied on only two sides.
Purportedly originates to the Anapolis Royal area of Nova Scotia. Ca. 1760-1790. 19 1/2"L x 5 3/4"T x 6 5/8"W.
