19th c. Eastern Woodlands Berry Basket (SOLD)
A 19th c. berry basket in original soldier blue paint.
Constructed entirely from cut and shaved ash wood. The body is profiled with a square bottom and woven with wide plaited weavers worked up to form a circular rim. Two rim ribs support the upper structure and are secured with a single wide coil rim wrap.
The handle is formed with tapered thickness and rounded underside for comfort.
Retains an exceptional paint finish. Texture, color and anomalies show exquisite historical value. Excellent original condition with light wear being expected from in-period use. Free from damage, a statement in itself due to the delicate and thin nature of the weavers. Displays vibrantly.
Eastern woodlands origin. Ca. 1870. 6"T x 6"W.
