19th c. Fruit Basket
A 19th c. fruit basket in original teal pigmented paint.
Woven of white oak and produced with elegance and strength in mind. Its body proportionally is much more curvilinear and stout than typicall basketry. Double coiled rim wrappings, robust vertical stanners, and a coiled footed base all are products of the original weavers intent to produce a basket of utilitarian use but to have structural integrity part of its design.
A single coat of original teal paint accompanies its design. Rich surface elements are present from gentle historic use.
A truly beautiful basket with form, function and color.
Pennsylvania origin. Ca. 1870. 10"W x 5"T.
