19th c. Match Holder
A 19th c. wooden match holder in old varnish over original pigmented varnish.
Constructed from walnut in its entirety. The backboard is profusely decorated by utilizing pierced scrollwork in combination with a series of punch snowflake decoration.
The front pockets are decorated with a style of pin pricking and show a humanoid figure in pursuit of an animal, possibly a hunter and fox. On its reverse, four large early iron nails are present, securing the frontal pockets to the backboard. A large robin is present on its reverse executed with pin prick style decoration as well.
Displays boldly and beautifully. Remains in superlative original condition with a fine crazed surface to its varnish finish.
