19th c. Miniature Firkin

A scarce 19th c. miniature firkin in original varnished finish.

Constructed from pine wood with a staved body. The lid and base components are of pine wood and are joined with tiny early wooden pins and a croze joint. Three wooden reinforcement bands are made of ash wood and feature tapered fingers with iron tack and staple joinery at its ends.

An iron bail swing handle is attached at its sides and features a lathe turned birch hand grip.

Survived in a beautiful state of original condition with fine surface elements showing historic use and golden color. A scarce size of firkin for its era of production and the top to any stack of firkins of its kind.
