19th c. Paint Decorated Box

A 19th c. paint decorated box in original decoration.

Constructed of eastern white pine wood with rabbet joints and joined with early iron nail joining. The interior showcases early iron hinges attached with screws and a compartmentalized quadrant.

The paint decoration of its exterior remains a handsome and vibrant focal point. A white painted foundation was applied and wetwork followed with a wild array of sponge decoration creating a textured appearance. Monogrammed initials adorn its lid and are surmounted by dot decoration.

Remains in an overall excellent state of original condition with as-descended surface qualities and lightly worn interior. New England, possibly Massachusetts origin. Ca. 1830. 13 3/8"W x 7 1/8"D x 6"T.
