19th c. Rattle
A 19th c. oversized baby rattle in original salmon paint.
Constructed entirely of pine wood with a puzzle box design with each edge being scalloped with a chamfered edge. A simplistic and rudimentary formed handle pierces the entire body and is splined on its top end. The opposite shows a small rosehead nail piercing the end of the handle, likely for attachment of a piece of string.
Survives in superlative condition, a surprising characteristic given its age and original use. Maintains excellent paint surfwce qualities with pleasing color.
New England origin. Ca. 1840. 10"T.
