19th c. Side Table
An exceptional 19th c. southern side table in original red paint.
Constructed entirely of southern shortleaf pine wood. The top is cut from a single plank and nailed to its base via a small series of early iron nails and offset to favor a light overhang on three sides.
Mortise and tenon joints join the apron board to delicate tapered legs and are secured with charming hand shaved pegs made of pine wood.
Retains a beautifully aged painted surface with anomalies, historic elements, pleasing nail oxidation and color. Structurally in excellent condition with light cupping to the top being expected with age and use. Visually pleasing with an uplifting spirt rooted in its design.
Likely Georgia in origin. Ca. 1840. 30"T x 18 7/8" W x 15" D.
