19th c. Toy Rifle

A great 19th c. toy rifle in original red and black two toned paint.

Constructed from a single body of pine wood with a black ash wood applied forestock set in with 2 early iron nails. The barre is shaped roughly exhibiting a variety of kerf marks all around and bored at the end about 3"D. Two circular scribe marks with four leaf pinwheels are faintly visible on either side of thr stock.

A moving faux trigger made of ash wood is set in and secured with a small wooden pin. Accentuated with a single small brass tack.

Remains in excellent condition with an extremely fine paint surface rich in patina, color and oxidation.

New England origin. Ca. 1840. 40 1/2"L.
