Early Heart Shaped Snuff Box (SOLD)
A 19th c. heart shaped snuff box in original brown stained finish.
Comprised dominantly of pine wood with an applied relief carved lid stopper applied via a series of tiny hand carved wooden pegs.
The body is masterfully executed...fastidiously laid out with attention to detail. A series of prominent scalloping encompasses all edges with concave cutouts. Faint initials decorate the lid, relief carved with what appears to be "BDC".
Remains in overall excellent original condition with two tiny brass brads securing old shrinkage cracks. Exhibits wonderful surface characteristics. Hearts with scalloped edges of similar design can be seen on Pennsylvania frakturs.
Northeast origin, possibly Pennsylvania. 2 3/16"L.
