Golliwog Door Stop

Golliwog Door Stop

A fabulous Golliwog door stop in original polychrome paints.

Constructed from pine wood with its profile cut by hand. An applied angled stopper is attached via two small iron brads.

It was likely created in response to the release of Florence Upton's childrens books depicting the first release of the character. As early homes in the northeast started setting in the Victorian era, a need for door stops preventing doors from swinging shut became common.

Survives in overall excellent condition given its use.

American, likely northeast origin. Ca. 1900. 6"T.
