Scarce 18th c. Diminutive Firkin (SOLD)

A scarcely found 18th c. diminutive size firkin in old refinished surface.

Constructed and assembled of mixed woods with the body being composed of pine wood staving being supported and secured by ash wood bands. Each band features a lap joint proportionally oversized and secured with large hand forged rose head nails.

An ash wood handle is attached via two mushroom shaped knobs and features a tapered profile.

Small sized firkins of this size scarcely exist, especially with market availability, and this example is exemplary specimin given size, proportions, and age.

Remains in overall excellent structural condition with original paint removed at a point in the 20th c. leaving a golden colored appearance.

New England origin. Ca. 1780. 8"OAH X 5 1/4"T x 6 3/4"W.
