Scarce 19th c. Diminutive Bucket Bench (SOLD)

Scarce 19th c. Diminutive Bucket Bench (SOLD)

A 19th c. bucket bench in original red pigmented varnished finish.

Constructed out of pine wood planks. The maker utilized butt joint joinery using a number of iron nails to secure its joints.

The backboards are neatly arranged horizontally and feature false feather edge joinery at two sections, a construction technique not commonly found. The original intent of showcasing a more advanced technique of joinery while keeping its construction process simple is seen in this characteristic, a typical signature of New England carpentry as seen through generations of craft.

Remains in overall structurally very good original condition remaining sturdy. Its varnished finish is ideal with textured crazing and craquelure and shows only light and typical signs of normal wear from in-period use.

New England. Ca. 1890. 24 1/2"W x 30"T x 10"D.
